POWER UP AUSTRALIA’S POWEROOS – SPONSOR AND PARTNER EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST ARE OPEN

Sydney, Australia: Australian Powerchair Football Association (APFA) has announced “Power Up” expressions of interest to sponsor or partner with the Australian POWEROOS for the 2025 Asia Pacific Oceania (APO) Powerchair Football Cup and 2026 Powerchair Football World Cup are now open.

Congratulations to the players selected as part of the POWEROOS, our National Team representing Australia in the Asia Pacific Oceania (APO) Powerchair Football Cup in October 2025. Brisbane is hosting this event with Japan, NZ and Korea battling it out for APO glory and for qualification for the FIPFA World Cup in Argentina next year. Currently placed 6th in world, the POWEROOS are desperate to take it to the world’s heavyweights.

Unlike the USA, England and France, powerchair football in Australia at the national level is self-funded by players and their families with the help of a few sponsors who are critical partners of the POWEROOS.

“Power Up” seeks to change that. Partnerships, sponsorships and donations are now open to build our World Cup campaign. Help to elevate the POWEROOS team’s viability and build infrastructure to the international benchmark.

We invite everyone to get involved and encourage corporates, media, disability service providers, charitable foundations and individual donors to be part of building the future of this elite, high-impact version of soccer, adapted for power chair athletes, here in Australia.

Expressions of interest are sought from sponsors and partners for the following opportunities:

  • Broadcast – TV, digital and radio
  • Game day and tournament advertising
  • Team and player sponsorships
  • Donations of players equipment

“APFA has a bold ambition for what this sport can be here in Australia. We’re encouraged by the huge scale and professionalism of this sport overseas and inspired by the talent and tenacity of our POWEROOS team. I want all Australians to have the chances to watch Powerchair football and get hooked on the game and fall in love with these athletes. They are redefining inclusion with a bang and showcasing what is possible when you focus on ability”, said Kristy Yeadon, APFA President. “The right recognition and support leading into this World Cup campaign is critical to disrupt the favourites. With the help of long term partners and sponsors, we can elevate this sport and this Australian squad can achieve great things. With a little bit of coverage and commitment I can see Australia getting right behind the POWEROOS.”

The two top teams from the 2025 APO Cup in Brisbane will qualify for the 2026 FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup to be held in Argentina. Legacy and investment are on the side of the USA, England and France but the POWEROOS aspire to move up the order with their raw talent, passion and desire to win. Global Football competition wearing the green and gold is everything to these players.

There is a genuine opportunity to stand behind this remarkable team. To support the POWEROOS and help lift them onto the world stage, please contact the Australian Powerchair Football Association (APFA) by email: president@apfa.org.au

About:

Australian Powerchair Football Association (APFA) is a FIPFA-affiliated body, allowing Australia to compete in and host international level competitions. APFA and Australia have hosted both APO Cup tournaments in 2013 and 2019 and the FIPFA World Cup in 2023.

Fédération Internationale de Powerchair Football Association (FIPFA) is the peak international body for Powerchair Football.

The Australian POWEROOS are Australia’s national Powerchair Football team. Currently ranked sixth (6th) in the world, and first (1st) in the region, they represent Australia on the international stage and have competed at various international tournaments at regional and global level. Established in 2011, they debuted at the 2011 FIPFA World Cup in Paris with a seventh (7th) place finish and have rapidly ascended in international Powerchair football with fourth (4th) place at the 2017 World Cup in Florida. For more information and results, see apfa.org.au/australian-POWEROOS/

At the highest level of competition, Australia’s Powerchair Football athletes compete without the support of national or governing body funding. The POWEROOS are self-funded, with costs borne by the players and their families.

POWEROOS players will be available for interview at the upcoming training camps in Melbourne in September and Brisbane in October.

APFA supports responsible reporting in media. Our athletes and community members are redefining “diversity” and what is possible when you focus on “ability”. How people with a disability are portrayed in the media matters and we encourage all journalists and media outlets to refer to Media Diversity Australia’s “Disability Reporting Handbook”: https://www.mediadiversityaustralia.org/disability-reporting-handbook/
