Australia’s best Powerchair Football athletes will gather in Sydney next month as the sport builds momentum towards future Paralympic inclusion, with the 2026 APFA Powerchair Football Club Championships taking place 14–18 April 2026 at Camellia Indoor Sports Centre.
Proudly hosted by the NSW Powerchair Football Association (NSWPFA), the national championships will bring together 10 elite club teams and approximately 70 athletes from across Australia and New Zealand to compete in one of the fastest growing disability sports in the world.
Powerchair Football is a fast-paced, highly skilled team sport designed specifically for people who use power wheelchairs, combining strategy, speed and precision in a competitive football format.
The APFA Club Championships is the premier national competition for the sport, providing a high-performance pathway for athletes progressing to international competition, including selection for the Australian national team, the Poweroos.
With international growth accelerating, the sport’s global governing body (FIPFA) has submitted applications as part of the long-term process towards future Paralympic Games inclusion, positioning events such as the APFA Club Championships as critical milestones in the development of elite athletes and the global profile of the sport.
Many athletes competing in Sydney are preparing for the 2026 FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup in Argentina, highlighting the increasingly professional and competitive nature of the sport.
“The APFA Club Championships showcases the very best of Powerchair Football and demonstrates the important role inclusive sport plays in creating opportunities for athletes with physical disabilities,” said Kristy Yeadon, President of the Australian Powerchair Football Association (APFA).
“We are seeing incredible growth both in Australia and internationally, with the sport continuing to progress towards future Paralympic inclusion. The standard of competition continues to rise each year, and we are proud to see our athletes performing at an elite level on both the national and world stage.”

Powerchair Football provides athletes with physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in competitive team sport, supporting physical activity, independence, teamwork and social connection.
With Australia preparing to host the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the continued growth of Powerchair Football highlights the increasing demand for high-performance pathways and inclusive sporting opportunities.
