The aims of the Federation are as follows:

  • To assist members to provide abortion services.

  • To promote, advocate and lobby for the availability of quality abortion and fertility control services.

  • To be responsive to members' needs by:
          - representing member's views
          - providing a means for information exchange, support and education
          - provide support for members in medico-legal issues.

  • To contribute to and influence informed public debate, policy and research on issues relating to abortion and fertility control.

  • To provide a mechanism for presenting opinion to government on issues of concern to the membership and the public in relation to access to and the provision of abortion services.

  • To ensure the provision of training and education for medical and health workers and students in all aspects of the provision of abortion services.

  • To establish and monitor standards for best practice in abortion service facilities.

  • To establish and maintain formal relationships with peak international abortion bodies.
